Wendell Carter Jr. Declares For 2018 NBA Draft

Apr 16, 2018 12:32 PM

Wendell Carter Jr. will leave Duke to declare for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Carter needed more time to make his decision than most other projected lottery picks.

“I want to thank Duke University, my coaches and teammates for helping me so much, not only on the court, but off it as well,” Carter said in a statement on his Instagram account. "We’re all brothers, we all have each others’ backs. I’m really going to miss being around my friends, but I’m really going to cherish the moments we had together. I’m very excited and very happy to say I was part of something special here at Duke.”

Carter averaged 13.5 points per game and 9.1 rebounds this past season at Duke.

Wendell Carter Jr. Undecided About Declaring For NBA

Apr 11, 2018 11:24 AM

Wendell Carter Jr. remains undecided about whether to declare for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Carter's parents have opposing views on what he should decide.

"I told him I wanted him to come back," Carter's mom Kylia Carter told The Undefeated. "His jaw dropped. It has nothing to do with basketball. It's about you. It's about who he is. He is a student at core. Yes, he is a great basketball player. But he's an 18-year-old kid. He is having a tug with a heart and his mind. I don't feel for him because I think it's good for him that he is going through this struggle. It's his decision. He has to live with it."

Carter is expected to be a lottery pick if he leaves Duke.

Gary Trent Jr. Leaves Duke For 2018 NBA Draft

Apr 7, 2018 2:07 PM

Gary Trent Jr. has announced he will leave Duke for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Trent averaged 14.5 points per game in 33.8 minutes per game.

Trent broke J.J. Redick's Duke freshman record for 3-point field goals with 97. Redick had 95 in 2003.

"Gary was the best three-point shooter in the ACC," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a press release. "At the NBA level, that’s what they’re looking for. He has the size of a two-guard who will be able to fit in the NBA. We appreciate everything Gary brought to Duke Basketball and wish him the best as he begins his journey in professional basketball."

Trent is projected to be a mid-first round pick.
